Would you like to combine a marathon with something exotic
and arctic? Then perhaps the Midnight Sun Marathon is something
for you. At almost 70 N you can run in broad daylight in the
middle of the night. The race is the northen most certified
marathon in the world.
June is the time for the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø
(Norway), with runners from 32 nations partaking
in this splendid event. Who have travelled from as afar as
South Africa, New Zealand and Japan, so as to experience the
thrill of the Midnight Sun event.
The marathon course starts in the centre of Tromsø
and goes across the city bridge and onto the mainland. You
run from the centre of the city and across the 1.026 metres
long Tromsø-bridge (44 metres above the the sea level).
After about 20K distance on the mainland, the runners return
and run through the centre of the city and around the southern
part of the island and back to finish area in the city centre.
The course is AIMS certified. There is also a half marathon
and 10Km offered, so that the rest of the family can also
get into the fun.
Tromsø is the capital of northern Norway and the city
offers many amazing attractions ranging from the Artic Cathedral
to the Northen Lights Planetarium.
