The
first Ottawa Marathon took place on May 25, 1975,
at the time , organizers believed they were staging a one
off event, more than 30 years later Ottawa has become Canada's best
marathon destination as well as one of the oldest
major marathons with thousands of competitors.
The course offers excellent viewing and cheering areas so the runner can experience
the support and excitement of the marathon. The course runs along both sides of the Rideau Canal, a National Capital Region
landmark.
Because of relative ease of the course terrain it is considered an ideal course
for first timers and those looking for a personal best.
The event has an extensive Sports Expo held over the same week-end.
