The
Chicago Marathon is known as the fastest course in the world
- a course lined with cheering spectators and inspiring entertainment.
No one expects a 26.2 mile race to be easy but you can guarantee
that the Chicago Marathon staff makes your experience enjoyable
from registration to the finish line. The previous world record
for the marathon was set at Chicago in 1999 by Khallid Kannouchi.
The aura of the Chicago Marathon permeates its runners from
head to toe, fortifying them with internal energy and an external
glow. From your first steps of the day to those last triumphant
strides toward the finish, Chicago really is a gem, a magnificent
milestone, for all who participate.
The event is a colorful parade of a United Nations of runners,
first stretchingfor
blocks, later for miles. It has thousands of onlookers, maybe
a million, lining the North Side neighbor- hoods, spreading
through Downtown, over to Greektown and UIC, down to Pilsen,
Chinatown and beyond; bands and more bands; great support
staff and helpers all along the way.
