what is you 5k time currently? sub 17 should also be an aim there

Hi TheEd,

Sound advice. I'll be going into maraton training in a month or so (for Berlin), and the 2k session will also be a good session for that. I feel I have to be properly rested to do a 2k session though, otherwise it only results in frustration and too much fatigue afterwards, which hampers my training.

The only 5k times I have are parts of the 10k that I run, the first 5k in this run were in 17:42, I guess I could do 17:00. I'll try to find an opportunity for that, it needs to be a race though: I need competition to run fast

Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted. Marathon training was tough, but gave me good results. I managed quite some weeks with about 100km of running. I found it quite demanding and I managed by running the easy running REALLY easy and only the fast bits fast. Also, running most of the kilometers on soft surfaces and running in different types of running shoes and some strength training kept me away from injuries.

I trained for Berlin (past Sunday). Along the way I managed another sub-36minute 10k on the very hilly course of Stockholm's Midnattsloppet and a 1hr56min 30k (with 40-38-38 splits). In the week leading up to the Berlin Marathon, I felt like I was getting a cold or a flu, but that might have been nerves. My goal was to at least run sub 3hrs, but I would set out on a 4:00 min/km pace.

On racing day I felt pretty good (although not as relaxed as when I was running the 30k race). I had my coach and a friend hand me water and powergel every 6k, which was perfect. I managed almost perfect 20min 5k splits up to 30k, then I lost about 50 seconds between 30 and 40k. I finished strong: my pace for the last 2.195 k was 3:50 min/km. My net time was 2:49:17. I think that was pretty much as fast as I could do now (and very happy with that!), but... I also feel that if I'll continue training as I'm doing now, next year I'll be able to run faster then that...

Recovery is going pretty well, only doing some easy runs this week. Next serious race will be Nijmegen's Zevenheuvelenloop on 16th of november, I'll be trying to complete the 15k in about 53 minutes... we'll see if I'll manage!
