Thanks for the detailed reply.
I'll skip my 30 min easy today to allow my calf to rest.
Next race I'll try and pick someone out at the start who I can use as a pace setter as well.
After about the 3rd K or so I usually am amongst only myself for about 100 yards on either side of me.
I do race faster then I knock out the 2K's, I attributed that to just being "race day", but I do also tend to hold back, almost as a tool to avoid potential disappointment if I burn out.
