Pretorius and Rina Pretorius.
Francois Pretorius is a medical student at the
University of the Freestate.
He is also a competitive 1500m and 800m athlete. This year
(2003) he ran a personal best of 3:41,32min at the age of
19 years. He won the national junior 1500m title for the second
time this year and came 3rd at the national senior championships.
Francois competed at the World Youth Championships in 2001
and ran at the Universiade in Korea in August of 2003. He
is passionate about athletics and finished a book for junior
runners last year.
Rina Pretorius is married to Andrè Pretorius,
a civil engineer. She has a
university degree in nursing. Currently she is the coach of
a group of talented junior runners. In 2002 she had two athletes
in the final of the junior 800m race for men and one girl
in the women's 800m. In 2003 she had a finalist in the junior
women 800m and 1500m. In 2002 she coached her son, Francois
Pretorius to a gold in the 1500m (3:47min) and a bronze in
the 800m (1:50min). After many years in the health system
she has acquired a fine touch for human relations.
