An enthralling Prefontaine Classic track meeting took place in Eugene, Oregon, USA this weekend. The meeting is part of the IAAF Diamond League series and a number of the performances at the meeting are worthy of mentioning.
Allyson Felix was impressive over 400m, while Pole vault star Renaud Lavillenie of France set an outdoor personal best of 6m 05. Added to this was the consistent high performance of Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim who soared with a winning leap of 2.41 in the High Jump. Britain’s Mo Farah continued his domination of the Men’s 10000m with a confident win in a time of 26:50.97. Other performances of note was Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba, who ran a solo Women’s 5000m to set a stunning time of 14:19:76, despite the hot and windy conditions.
40 yr old, Bernard Lagat, set a Veteran’s World Record in finishing 4th in a time of 13:11:97. The race was won by Ethiopia’s teenage sensation, Yomif Kejelcha, who sprinted away over the last 300m to win in a time of 13:10:54
