Göteborg largest Half-marathon ever
In 2013, Göteborg again kept its #1 ranking as the world’s largest half-marathon, and with 45,126 finishers, it was the largest annual half-marathon ever, and for the second time (also 2011), there were four halves with more than 30,000 finishers in the same year (Göteborg, Bupa Great North Run, Paris and OneAmerica 500 Festival).
In addition, last year, there were a record 10 half-marathons worldwide with more than 20,000 finishers (previous record, 9 in 2012), and for the first time, just to be in the top 30 world list, a half-marathon had to have nearly 13,000 finishers.
Like previous years, the U.S. dominates the largest half-marathon world lists with 6 of the top 10, 14 of the top 20 and 19 of the top 30.
With 30,059 finishers, OneAmerica 500 Festival retained its #1 U.S. ranking, and impressively, the race has been the largest U.S. half-marathon for 23 of the past 24 years. Also, for the first time, the U.S. had six 13.1 mile road races with more than 20,000 finishers, and to be in the top 10, a race needed 18,000 finishers or more; in 2010, the top 10 cut-off was 13,400-plus finishers, and in 1990, it was just under 1,800 or ten times less than in 2013!
