Athletics New Zealand has appointed Graham Seatter to the new position of Black Singlet Convenor.
The purpose of the part-time role is to ensure the implementation Athletics New Zealand’s team selection philosophies and policies for Black Singlet events. The Convenor will also head the selection panel for all Black Singlet teams. Black Singlet events are Olympic and Commonwealth Games, IAAF World Championship events for senior, junior and youth levels and the IAAF World Indoor championships.
Seatter will oversee the top level of teams in a new selection system that will see a pool of selectors with specific knowledge used to select different teams.
Well known throughout the New Zealand sports industry, Seatter is looking forward to renewing his involvement with athletics. He has a huge passion for and previous involvement in the sport from grass roots through to high performance.
The winner of eight New Zealand titles, three English titles and having set ten New Zealand records during his career, he competed at the 1978 and 1986 Commonwealth Games.
He was also the team manager of three New Zealand teams at Race Walking World Cups and distance coach for the 1995 World Track and Field Champs, 1996 Olympic Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Graham currently holds the position of chief executive at the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuits Centre. He previously held roles within the New Zealand Academy of Sport, Lion Breweries and Lion Nathan and was the Chief Executive of New Zealand Football.
Seatter has coached two Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games representatives (including two medallists) and coached athletes to more than 70 New Zealand titles.
