World 24 Hour Running Championships, Katowice – 8/9 September 2012
New Zealand performances:
Men: Alex McKenzie 54th 212.135km, Brendon Keenan 73rd 198.571km, Wayne Botha 169th 171km 257.70m, Brian McCorkindale 213th 134km 403.69m. The men’s team finished 19th. Women: Amy Campbell 45th 186.208km, Val Muskett 47th 183.969km, Vivian Cheng 61st 166.623km. The women’s team finished 14th.
The men’s race won by 41 year old Mike Morton of USA who covered 277.543km, while Michaela Dimitriadu of the Czech Republic won the women’s title with a distance of 244.232km.
ITALY
IAAF World Challenge, Raul Guidobaldi Stadium, Rieti – 9 September 2012
Valerie Adams continued to dominate the world of shot putting chalking up another win with a meeting record of 20.77m. Her best performance came in round three and eclipsed Russian Natalya Khoronenko’s record of 19.83m set in 2006.
Adams’ series was 19.86m, 20.37m, 20.77m, 19.79m, 20.16m and 20.54m.
Cleopatra Borel of Trinidad and Tobago was second with 18.52m and Evgeniia Kolodko of Russia third 17.81m.

World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships, Interlaken – 8 September 2012
Sarah Biss finished 42nd. She was in the leading group over the first 20km and then her lower back and leg seized up and she dropped back hobbling over the final 22km.
USAIN BOLT COULD VISIT NEW ZEALAND
World and Olympic sprint champion and world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica could well visit New Zealand through his association with Frucor and the Gatorade sports drink campaign.
Mark Callaghan chief executive officer of Frucor said his company was excited to be launching Gatorade in New Zealand with Usain Bolt after his efforts at the London Olympic Games.
“As part of our launch plans we are attempting to secure Usain Bolt to come to New Zealand, because he is a global sponsored Gatorade athlete. We have not secured him yet but we are hopeful. It would be amazing if we were able to host him in New Zealand,” said Callaghan.
ROTORUA
Red Stag Redwoods Forest Relay – 8 September 2012
Steven O’Callaghan gave his Lake City Rotorua team a perfect start in the annual Redwoods Forest relay on Saturday.
O’Callaghan, who had victory snatched from him in a dramatic finish at the 2009 Rotorua Marathon, recorded the fastest individual 5000m circuit in the opening lap through the forest of 15m 43s. He was well backed by Nick Portas, Sjors Corporaal, Nick Pannett and Jason Steyn-Ross who completed the five lap event in 1h 21m 54s. They finished over six minutes ahead of Hamilton City Hawks.
Lake City also won the senior women’s relay with former national half marathon and 10km road and track champion Danielle Trevis-Ingram of Egmont running the fastest lap of 18m 23s.
Matt Baxter highlighted the junior men’s relay setting a record of 9m 57s for the 3200m lap, contributing to his Egmont team setting a race record of 43m 1s for the 4 x 3200m relay. Lake City won the master men with Hamilton collecting the master women.

AIMS Games, Schools cross country, Waipuna Park – 9 September 2012
Bradley Christison of Tutira just pipped Theodore Quax in the division 2 race both timed at 10m 12s. Kartik Kumar of Pukekohe was third in 10m 51s. Georgia Clode won the girls division 2 race in 11m 14s from Zia MacDermid of Palmerston North 11m 22s and Isabella Kelly of New Plymouth 11m 29s. Samuel Tanner of Tahatai won the division 1 in 10m 35s the same time as second placed Kyril McCarthy of Whangarei. Logan Karauria of Tauranga was third in 10m 55s. Arleah Tippins of Otumoetai won the division 1 girls race in 12m 2s, from Mollie Kroon of Auckland 12m 8s and Brooke Varney of Papakura 12m 10s.

Governors Bay to Lyttelton 10km Road Race – 8 September 2012
Brett Tingay was the fastest in 32m 45s, with Vajin Armstrong recording 33m 16s and Jake Stamper 34m 19s. Alexandra Williams, fresh from her fifth placing in last week’s national road champs, was the fastest senior woman in 36m 19s, 20 seconds quicker than Fiona Crombie with Anna Zakharova clocking 41m 36s. Fiona Gilroy was the best of the master women in 39m 23s, ahead of Leonie Kaywood 40m 19s and Karen Muller 41m 42s. Nick Burrow recorded 34m 22s in the master men followed by Andrew Reese-Jones 35m 20s and David Fitch 35m 28s.

Cadbury Moro Marathon and Half Marathon – 9 September 2012
Jason Palmer won the marathon in 2h 39m 47s, Tim Graham a master was second in 2h 55m 6s with master M50 Mark Wareing third in 2h 55m 59s. Mel Aitken in the master women was first overall woman in 3h 12m 49s. Eliza Sim was next in 3h 20m 0s.
Peter Meffan won the half marathon in 1h 9m 50s, from Dougal Thorburn 1h 10m 21s and Nathan Baxter 1h 10m 25s. Glen Ferguson was first master in 1h 16m 11s.
Shireen Crumpton won the women’s half in 1h 22m 25s, from first master Louisa Andrews 1h 26m 2s.

Throwers Spring Meeting, Sovereign Stadium North Shore – 1 September 2012
National M17 hammer throw champion Matthew Bloxham was out to 60.02m with the 5kg hammer and set a personal best of 55.99m with the 6kg hammer. National senior and W20 shot and discus champion Siositina Hakeai sent the discus out to 54.90m with Te Rina Keenan throwing 51.29m. Matt Dallow won the senior discus with 49.85m with Brent Newdick out to 42.70m and Alexander Parkinson recording a PB of 41.92m. Nicole Bradley won the women’s hammer throw with 52.95m.
