SPAIN
Transvulcania 83km Trail Race, Canary Islands – 12 May 2012
Anna Frost was outstanding winning the women’s race in a new course record of 8h 11m 30s around the island of La Palma, in finishing 40 minutes ahead of Nuria Picas of Spain. Mònica Aguilera of Spain held the previous record of 10h 0m 3s from last year. Frost led from start to finish in the race which took in a climb of 4200m.

USA
Virginia Challenge, Lannigan Field Charlottesville Va – 12 May 2012
Eric Speakman and Olivia Burne of Stony Brook both cut over four seconds off their personal best 1500m times in both finishing tenth in 3m 42.94s for Speakman and 4m 20.60s for Burne, qualifying them for the NCAA Regionals.

AUSTRALIA
Oceania Combined Events, Townsville – 5/6 May 2012
Nicholas Gerrard won the decathlon with a total of 6403. His performances were 11.57s (-0.1), 6.88m (0.0), 13.08m, 1.93m, 54.79s, 16.54s (-2.8), 36.30m, 3.80m, 56.11m, 5m 38.77s. Aaron Page of Australia was second with 6010 points.

Mini Meeting, Sovereign Stadium North Shore – 5 May 2012
Slight side/head wind, no wind readings. 100m hurdles; Sarah Cowley 14.10s, Portia Bing 15.03s. 200m; Rebecca Wardell 25.31s, Portia Bing 25.69s, Sarah Cowley 25.84s.

O’Hagan’s Viaduct 5km, 8 May: Jared Bowden 16m 40s, Simon Maunder 16m 41s, Chris Wharam 17m 7s. Claire Macky 19m 18s.

Rat Race 5km, Takapuna, 9 May: James Rimmer 17m 2s, Peter May 17m 10s, Brad Burnett 17m 59s. Megan Stewart 19m 50s.

NEW PLYMOUTH
TET Athletics Mountain running championships, Pukeiti – 5 May 2012
Dougan Butler won the 7km event in 27m 17s, from Scott van Dyke 29m 41s. Fastest times in the women’s 5km were Jane Elder 28m 1s, Maree Rawles 28m 33s and Janice McCallum 28m 37s.

NAPIER
Shoe Clinic Napier Relay – 12 May 2012
Hastings Harriers United team were too strong and they won the relay by 7m 24s in 1h 32m 51s, for the 26km circuit. The team consisted of Ross McIntyre, Jeremy Forbes, Phil McKay, Neville Smith and Graeme Moore. Second were Napier Harriers team of James Bell, Craig Mathers, Matt Somervell, Shane Bassick and young Isaac Dyer finishing off in 1h 40m 15s with Gisborne only 28s back in third position after close competition between those two clubs.

The first women’s team in was the Napier Harrier team which also dominated their grade to win by 6m 50s in 1h 51m 6s from Napier B who grabbed second place by 1min on the last lap from Hastings women. The Napier womens team was mainly made up of good young up and coming runners with Renee Holtom, Holly Manning, Roisin Pearson, Annie Kane and Laura Langley. The second team consisted of Corrina Alexander, Keiko Hashiba, Laura Smith, Georgia Creagh and Annie Creagh.

Lap four record for women was broken by Gisborne harrier and nationally ranked Grace McConnochie who ran 21m 16s.

HURUNUI
Hanmer Springs Half Marathon – 5 May 2012
Tane Cambridge won in 1h 13m 50s from Vajin Armstrong 1h 15m 22s and Chris Kelly 1h 15m 46s. Nicola Handley won the women’s half in 1h 28m 17s, from Lisa Brignull 1h 32m 55s.

INVERCARGILL
Southland Secondary Schools cross country – 9 May 2012
Convincing wins were a feature of the scenic but demanding Te Anau course. Hannah Adamson (SGHS) won the SG 4km by almost 2 and half minutes, Fynn Thomson (Wakatipu) had a more than comfortable 35 second lead in the SB 6km, Jack Beaumont (NSC) won the U16 boys by almost a minute from Jordan Rackham (SBHS) with Jono Hayes (Fiordland College) 5 seconds back in third while Kendall Buckingham (SGHS) won the U14 girls 3km by 43 seconds from Maria Burnett (JHC). Other grades however were closer. Holly Pierce (JHC) held out Lauren Brown (SGHS) in the U16 girls 3km, Anton Fitzgerald (NSC), Liam Cullen (Verdon) and Yannis Warrander (SBHS) had a good battle to take the first three places in U14 boys 3km, Olivia Murphy (Fiordland) and Tori Mennell (Aparima) were a class of their own in the U13 girls 3k and Liam Turner (NSC), while always in the lead, had Buddy Small (SBHS), Sam Thornbury (Verdon) and Jack Shaw (JHV) right on his tail throughout the U13 boys 3km.
