Grand Prix Cross Country, Pakuranga – 24 May 2014
Alex Parlane repelled a strong challenge from Jonny McKee to run out a clear winner of the annual Auckland Grand Prix cross country race at Lloyd Elsmore Park.
Parlane, the national champion in 2010, proved too strong over the final 3000m and went on to record 32:21 for the 10,000m. McKee finished 21 seconds later with Josh Maisey third in 33:02.
Rebecca Fogarty, in her first cross country race in eight years won the women’s 6,000m in 22:33, beating Emily Roughan of Hamilton by 22 seconds. Fogarty, formerly Forlong, previously held the New Zealand under 20 3000m steeplechase record. Sian English from Dunedin and now studying at University in Auckland won the junior women’s 6,000m in 23:05. Harry Linford of North Harbour outshone the junior men running the 8,000m in 27:20. The youth races were won by Luke Fielding and Grace Wood. The fastest in the masters were Sasha Daniels and Rachel Penney.
