The current World Cross Country Champion, Japhet Korir from Kenya has confirmed his entry and will start as a favourite in this year’s SPAR Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park, Dublin on Sunday 6th April. Just 20 years old, Korir is one of the rising stars of world athletics and was a comfortable winner of the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland last year.

Korir will be joined in Dublin by his compatriot and fellow world champion, Milcah Chemos who won the 3000 metre steeplechase title at last summer’s World Championships in Moscow. Chemos will be running her first 10k on the road in Dublin and will provide a stiff test for home favourite Fionnuala Britton.
The SPAR Great Ireland Run is the only race in Ireland to be recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the world governing body of athletics. The event is one of twenty-two races in the world to receive an IAAF Road Race Silver Label in recognition of the event’s high standard of organisation, elite participation and media profile.
The event is Ireland’s largest mixed 10k and up to 12,000 adults and children are expected to participate in the run and its associated junior events. Every 10K finisher will receive a technical event t-shirt, medal, goody bag and chip timed results.
