The Athlone 3/4 Marathon prepares for the 5th running through picturesque setting of County Westmeath on the 5th October 2014.
Starting in the village of Glasson, the 30km event serves as perfect preparation for the Dublin Marathon. Over the years, Ireland’s top athletes have utilised this opportunity and have enjoyed the event to the fullest to achieve their long-term goals.
1000 Limited Entry
2010 saw the debut of this sought after race with 500 runners testing the course and their will. In 2014, the event is now set to a limited entry of 1000.
The Country Course
The course is run over generally very quiet country roads with some undulations to enhance anyone seeking a good pre-marathon preparation run.
A Word from the Race Director
Paul Mahon, the race director, states: “The Athlone 3/4 marathon is well established as Ireland’s premiere Dublin or New York Marathon preparation event.
A glance through the past winners who include Gary O Hanlon and Linda Byrne gives an indication of the standing of the event and it usefulness as an autumn preparation event is well proven.”
Quality Event
The race is held over a scenic country road course and with superb after race facilities at the Glasson Golf Hotel it is easy to see why this event is expected to sell out in 2014.
