800m athlete and defending World Champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi will not compete in Daegu at the World Championships happening from 27 August – 4 September.
This comes after an old injury flared up again and has not recovered properly despite treatment. According to Mulaudzi’s coach, JP van der Merwe, a call was made on Monday and it was decided that withdrawing will be the best. “His hamstring problem is affecting his lower back,” said van der Merwe.
Mulaudzi said that he decided to stop the season in order to recover 100%. “I need to take this injury seriously so I can be ready for the Olympics next year.”
