The IAAF Road Running Commission will be holding its annual meeting in Prague this Saturday in conjunction with the 19th annual Volkswagen Prague Marathon being held this weekend.
The Commission, which is responsible for making recommendations to the IAAF Council on rules and policies regarding road races, is chaired by the former race director of the Virgin London Marathon, David Bedford. Other prominent members of the nine member commission include Pierre Weiss, the former General Secretary of the IAAF, and the President of the New York Road Runners and Race Director of the ING New York City Marathon, Mary Wittenberg. The Commission also includes two representatives from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). AIMS president, Francisco Borao, and General Secretary, Hugh Jones will represent the interests of the 300 plus members of their organization.
The Commission will discuss the IAAF Calendar and future Road Race Championships with the possible integration of these events into or in conduction with mass participation races. They will also tackle other current issues such as women’s road records, doping controls, pacing, and unfair assistance.
