10km Sub 35? - Acess Denied - 22-11-2010

Hello.

I have generally been a 5km-7km runner, but I'm interested in making the jump to 10km. My time for 5km is around 18:30 and my time for 7km is around 25:00. I recently ran at OFSAA (7.3km) and ran 25:56. My pace in the race was 3:33, and I noticed that for the sub 35 10km a pace of under 3:30 was required. I'm really interested in improving as next year is my senior year at high school, and it will be my last shot at OFSAA. Is the Sub 35 training plan one you believe is atainable for me? Also with the winter months ahead, I'm not exactly sure how I'll be able to train, as I don't have any indoor tracks I can go to.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated Smile

Hi Access Denied and welcome to the forums

your current 5km of 18.30 would need to come down to around 17 minutes to give you a hot at sub 35 minutes .. you can work off the 5km time x 2 plus add 1 minute for a general feel of how close you are to reaching your goal

and with that said .. depending on what training you are currently doing will set you on your way as to how you can train to achieve your goals

in the 10km program the elements which are focused on are the 2000m - 1000m and long run sessions .. these are the core to the success of the program, so depending on whether you currently do similar runs will determine a great deal of your progress, either way you will develop significantly on the program

over to you
