The organisers of South Africaââ¬â¢s most exciting off-road triathlon, the Totalsports XTERRA presented by REHIDRATî SPORT are proud to announce that the prize purse for the South African Championships in Grabouw on Sunday, 23 February 2014 has increased by R100 000, more than doubling the 2013 figure.
ââ¬ÅThe combined prize purse for the 2014 Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw Full presented by REHIDRATî SPORT is now R162 500,ââ¬Â said a very excited Nicola Collins, Event Manager. ââ¬ÅIn addition to this exciting news, we are also happy to announce that prize money will be awarded to the top twenty finishers in both the menââ¬â¢s and womenââ¬â¢s individual races. The Totalsports XTERRA SA Championships in Grabouw has grown to be the largest XTERRA in the world, with 3000 warriors expected to partake over the weekend. As part of our vision of growing the sport in South Africa, we would like the Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw to be a favourite race for pro XTERRA athletes in the global tour. We strongly believe that with a healthy prize purse the event will grow even more in both numbers and in statureââ¬Â.
ââ¬ÅXTERRA South Africa is extremely proud to have some of the worldââ¬â¢s best athletes as part of our XTERRA family,ââ¬Â continues Collins. ââ¬ÅIncreasing the prize purse is also our way of saying thank you to all warriors for their support, while encouraging more XTERRA warriors to reach the top. We believe that the increased prize purse will also attract a larger field of international XTERRA warriors, which in turn just might encourage the weekend warrior to come along and be a part of the fantastic XTERRA vibe. Having a highly competitive field is also great news for spectators and we hope that more people will come out with their families to be a part of the event. The team has put a lot of effort into raising the bar even higher than before. With new sponsors such as Fedhealth and Specialized coming on board, XTERRA warriors can look forward to an unbelievable race day experience with entertainment, chill areas, spectator areas, vendors, exhibitors and moreââ¬Â.
Taking the form of the South African Championship, the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Grabouw presented by REHIDRATî SPORT forms part of the XTERRA World Tour. Athletes competing at this event stand the chance to qualify for the world championship final in Hawaii later in the year.
