Spanish success for Palma Marathon Mallorca 2017
On a beautiful sunny day on the island of Mallorca, Spain’s Rosaura Casado and Tofol Castanyer won the Palma Marathon Mallorca 2017, held in the Palma de Mallorca city centre.
More than 10,000 athletes took part in the events over the three distances (10, 21 and 42km) available, with participants from 46 different countries. 45% of the fields were made up by female entries.
Spanish ultra runner, Tofol Castanyer, took first place in the marathon with a time of 2h 31:15, with this victory he also won the Spanish official Veteran Championship. Castanyer led from gun to tape, winning the race by 2 minutes ahead of the Swiss runner, Marco de Martin. Raúl Gándara took took third place in a time of 2hr 37min 24sec.
Rosaura Casado takes Palma Mallorca Marathon Women’s title
The female winner, Spaniard Rosaura Casado, took the from the halfway point, and ran unchallenged to an easy victory in 2h57:13. Laura Villar crossed the finish line in 2h59:28, second, a few seconds ahead of Monica Granero, third.
In the half marathon, German Jürgenn Wittman (1h15:18) and Czech Nela Küffnerovanela (1h23:75) were the 2017 winners. British Lisa Palmer-Blount (36:57) and Swedish David Nilsson (31’49) were the victors in the 10km race.
The events focus on the family and fun bringing participants to Palma de Mallorca, one of the main touristic places in Europe, situated in the Balearic Islands. A high quality event that is not only a marathon, is a full weekend of activity, tourism and leisure for beginners or experienced athletes, and their families.
