The 4th running of the annual Music Marathon takes place tomorrow, the 27th October 2012, on the island of Lanzarote.
The seaside resort of Puerto Del Carmen plays host to this Kenneth Gasque event, bringing a fun filled occasion to the streets.
In a typical carnival atmosphere, the roads are closed to traffic to provide the spectators and participants with an event brimming in entertainment provided by local musicians during the 5km, 10km or half marathon.
Every 300m a musician shall be found strumming their tune with the 2.5km and 5km is marked with 9 stages set-up for the artists who each play for up to an hour.
The route is made up of 4 x 5km laps giving the participants ample opportunity to take in the music and the scenic run.
The field hopes to reach 400 participants by start time with more than 24 countries represented from afar afield as Finland with the UK providing the most numbers.
Local athlete and London 2012 Olympian, Jose Carlos Hernandez, is the course record holder with a time of 68:11. The women’s record is held by Poland’s Agnieska Ciolek with a time of 83:13. Both records were established in 2011.
Whereas the event does not carry a title sponsor the Music Marathon is proudly associated with the hotels, Fariones and the San Antonia, the bank La Caixa and Aloe Vera.
The charity SARA is the main beneficiary attached to the event
