What types of clothing are best for sweating?
Lightweight clothing with vents or mesh is recommended. Microfiber polyesters, such as CoolMax and DuoFold, and cotton blends are good fabric choices. Traditional t-shirts can become very heavy and uncomfortable if soaked with sweat. Avoid any materials that can cause chafing when damp.
- Treating sweat stains
Nothing is quite so unsightly as dingy yellow perspiration stains in your t-shirts. Not only are these under-arm stains ugly, but they can harbor objectionable odor. Your best bet is to treat these problem areas before the stains set in. Pre-treat new stains with an enzyme pre-soak product or spray-on stain remover before putting it into the washing machine. If the stain doesn’t come out, refrain from putting the garment in the dryer, which will set the stain as heating can cause an otherwise colorless stain to yellow.
- Protection
Sweat dripping into your eyes whilst running can cause stinging and temporary blindness, if you tend to sweat excessively from the heat, try wearing a sweatband made of towelling or a peak cap/visor with a towelling liner. Towelling armbands are also useful to wipe away excessive sweat on the brow. Keep a towel handy for just after your run.
