Cragg sets Irish 5000m record
Alistair Cragg of Clonliffe Harriers sets a new Irish 5000m record of 13:03:53 in Brussels.
After a number of years of frustration, Cragg, finally got back into the shape last seen in 2007 when he set 13:07:10. In the final race of the Diamond League series the South African born Irishman got to break Mark Carroll’s 13 year old when finishing fifth in a high class race won by Ethiopia’s Imane Merga in 12:58:32.
This performance has been a long time coming and it augers well for Cragg as he can now plan to London 2012 with confidence regained.
