Dublin City Marathon 2014 – The weather building up to this event did not bode well. Friday, Saturday and Sunday was a mixture of sun, rain, cloud and worst of all wind – with speeds exceeding 35mph. Weather reports on Sunday suggested we were in for a dull cloudy day with wind speed 25-35MPH for the Marathon. This would mean that we would get a head wind on mile 13 -15 and a tailwind from mile 22 onwards. Athlone 3/4 Marathon by Gillian
With a slight nip in the air and my bags packed, I began my journey to Glasson Golf Club and the start line of the Athlone 3/4Marathon. After a nice relaxing car journey down to Glasson and the car parked up, I made my way to Race HQ. I was to collect my race number and to tuck into a freshly backed scone with melted butter and strawberry jam, and of course a cup tea. Stomach full and number attached, all I now had to do was to relax until 10.45 when we were to be summoned to the car park for a pre-race briefing. Then it was on down to the start line. [Read more…]

Limerick 2013 Half Marathon report

We decided to drive down, from Dublin the day before. Registration and race number collection are done the days before hand. Our hotel of choice is the Travellodge just outside of town, at 45 euro per night a steal. The room is big and most important, a very nice bathroom with powerful shower. [Read more…]
