Canada nominates five more to Olympics

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced five additional nominees today to the 2012 Olympic Games team. Daundre Barnaby of Brampton, Ont., Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ont., Tremaine Harris of Markham, Ont., Kerri-Ann Mitchell of Pickering, Ont., and Sheila Reid of Newmarket, Ont., were nominated to the Canadian Olympic Committee for inclusion on the 2012 Olympic Games team.  This brings the total nominees to the Olympic Games team by Athletics Canada to 45, the largest in recent history.    [Read more…]

UKA has announced the athletes who will compete in the London 2012 athletics test event, at the Olympic Stadium on 4 – 7 May 2012.

More than 140 athletes, including London 2012 hopefuls Holly Bleasdale (coach: Julien Raffalli-Ebezant), Perri Shakes-Drayton (Chris Zah), Jack Green (Malcolm Arnold, Robbie Grabarz (Fuzz Ahmed) and William Sharman (Malcolm Arnold), will be testing out the Stratford venue as the Capital gears up for the biggest sporting spectacle in the world this summer. Sarah Biss cut five minutes off her personal best in finishing 17th in the Rotterdam Marathon in 2h 39m 20s. Biss went through the half way mark in 1h 16m 21s. She faced tough windy conditions over the second half.
Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia won in the fourth fastest all time for a woman of 2h 18m 58s.
Biss’ previous best was 2h 44m 32s for 16th place in last October’s Chicago Marathon. [Read more…]
