Erick Kiptanui wins Berlin Half Marathon 2018
Berlin, Germany – Kenya’s newcomer Erick Kiptanui clocked a sensational course record of 58:42 and tied the world lead in the Berlin Half Marathon. Running only his third race in Europe and winning for the third time Kiptanui achieved the joint fifth fastest half marathon time ever. Japan Rules Phukethon 2017
Thailand – Japanese athletes dominated the inaugural Phukethon, the first annual running festival on the Thai holiday island of Phuket. Clubmates, Hiroki Kai and Azusa Nojiri won their respective marathons with Nojiri finishing sixth overall; while Kansuke Morihashi won the men’s half-marathon, with Thai Olympian in Rio last year, Natthaya Thanaronnwat winning the women’s ‘half’. Phuket: Phuketon – It takes a lot to stop a long distance runner even before they have launched into their half or full marathon or even (much) longer. Ever since the introduction of the big-city marathons in the early 1970s, so successful has been the notion of travelling the world to run a race that marathons in such disparate locations as the South Pole, Siberia, and various deserts have been augmented by longer runs like the Great Wall event in China, the Comrades 89k race in South Africa, and even in locations where lesser mortals fear to tread, such as Pyongyang in North Korea and last month’s temples race in Myanmar; which is doubtless why the infinitely more attractive location of the Thai holiday island of Phuket has attracted 9000 people to a new event this weekend. Mary Keitany smashes Olomouc course record
Mary Keitany emerged triumphant from the sixth edition of the Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon, running the world class time of 66:38 for victory. The Kenyan improved the course record by over two minutes and achieved the fourth fastest time in the world this year for the half marathon.
