Julia Ratcliffe of Hamilton at a warm up meeting prior to competing in the world junior championships in Barcelona broke her own New Zealand W18 and W19 hammer record with a throw of 64.21m to win the competition.
Ratcliffeââ¬â¢s previous best was 63.89m set in Hamilton four months ago.
Her series was (63.26m, 61.68m, 64.21m, 63.67m, x, 63.47m). Ready Fruszina of Hungary was second with 60.31m. Ratcliffe, who turns 19 on 14 July, now has her sights set on Tasha Williamsââ¬â¢ national senior record of 65.91m.
Andrew Whyte ran a PB 400m of 46.73s in finishing second to Australiaââ¬â¢s Steven Solomon 45.71s. Kodi Harman was second in heat 4 of the 100m 10.79s (-0.3) and third in the C final in 10.82s (+0.6). Ben Moynihan was second in the 1500m 3m 50.10s and Julian Oakley fifth in 3m 52.04s. Rebekah Greene was fifth in the womenââ¬â¢s 1500m in 4m 24.82s. Portia Bing was sixth in heat 1 of the 100m hurdles 14.47s (+1.4).

Monique Williams was 6th in the 100m in 12.18s (-1.2), won by Sally Pearson Australia 11.20s. Caroline Mellsop was 7th in the 1500m in 4m 36.86s, won by Sara Treacy of Ireland 4m 19.99s. Michael Cochrane was 3rd in the 400m hurdles in 53.10s, won by Brendan Colle of Australia 50.60s.

Personal bests all round from Tom Walsh first in the 7.26kg shot put 19.16m (18.43m, x, 19.16m, x, x, x), Siositina Hakeai first in the discus throw 53.46m (53.46m, 51.81m, x, 52.00m, 53.07m) and Merewarihi Vaka second in the discus 50.26m (46.12m, 50.26m x, 46.93m, 47.17m, 50.24m).
Portia Bing was fifth in the 600g javelin with a throw of 35.35m (32.92m, 32.47m, 35.35m,34.03m).

IAAF Race Walking Challenge, Coppa Citta di Sesto San Giovanni ââ¬â 17 June 2012
London Olympic Games bound 50km walker Quentin Rew finished 14th in the 20km walk in 1h 33m 13s, 8m 21s behind the winner Eder Sanchez of Mexico.
Raced in hot conditions, temperature of 34ðC, Rewââ¬â¢s splits were 5km 22m 26s, 10km 45m 15s and 15km 1h 9m 21s.
WORLD RECORD IN THE DECATHLON
Ashton Eaton set a world decathlon record of 9039 points in winning the US Olympic Trials at Eugene Oregon 22/23 June. Eaton added 13 points to Roman Sebrle of Czech Republic record set 11 years ago. Eaton, silver medallist at the world championships in Daegu last year and world indoor champion in Istanbul earlier this year had the following performances for his world record: 100m 10.21s (+0.4) 1044, long jump 8.23m (+0.8) 1120, shot put 14.20m 741, high jump 2.05m 850, 400m 46.70s 973, 110m hurdles 13.70s (-0.8) 1014, discus throw 42.81m 722, pole vault 5.30m 1004, javelin throw 58.87m 721, 1500m 4m 14.48s 850. He set personal bests in the 100m, long jump, pole vault and 1500m.
Eaton, competing on his home ground, said it was more than he expected.
"I thought I'd get a good 100, a good long jump and from there, just have a go at it and make the team," Eaton said. "But when you're in this place, in this atmosphere, this is what happens. Iââ¬â¢m so glad I was able to be a part of it,ââ¬Â he said.
