Athletics Canterbury Athlete of the Year Awards ââ¬â 25 May 2012
National 800m champion and runner up in the 400m and 1500m Angie Smit was awarded senior athlete of the year at the annual Athletics Canterbury awards dinner on 25 May. The junior athlete of the year was awarded jointly to Jesse Bryant and Tom Walsh. Coach of the year and the Valdemars Briedis Memorial Cup was presented to Jill Morrison. Ian Baird was honoured with an Athletics Canterbury merit award.
QUEENââ¬â¢S BIRTHDAY DIAMOND JUBILEE HONOURS ââ¬â 4 June 2012
Three members of Athletics New Zealand were honoured in the Queenââ¬â¢s Birthday Honours for their services to athletics.
Leon Martyn Theodore Blanchet of Leeston was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit ONZM.
James Alexander Blair of Upper Hutt was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit MNZM
Ian Murray McKinnon of Auckland received the Queenââ¬â¢s Service Medal QSM.
Leon Blanchet ONZM is the doyen of Athletics New Zealand Officials and the rules of competition. Leon received an Athletics New Zealand Merit Award in 2002 and was President of Athletics New Zealand 2006-07.
Jim Blair MNZM is a stalwart of New Zealand Masters Athletics; he is a Life Member of NZMA. He has been Vice-President of World Masters Athletics and was the Oceania representative on the IAAF Masters Committee. Jim received an Athletics New Zealand Merit Award in 2003 and was President of Athletics New Zealand 2010-11.
Murray McKinnon QSM is convenor of records and communications advisor to Athletics New Zealand. Murray received an Athletics New Zealand Merit Award in 2006 and was twice President of Athletics New Zealand 1999-2000 and 2008-09.

26th Annual Mount Joggers and Walkers Half Marathon ââ¬â 3 June 2012
Kyle MacDonald won in 1h 12m 8s from Iain MacDonald 1h 12m 29s and Tony Edmonds 1h 17m 20s. Jessica Lawson was the first woman in 1h 29m 41s. The associated 10km went to Ben Ruthe in 34m 26s from Andrew Wark 35m 35s and Chris Myland 35m 38s. Siobhan Griffiths recorded 42m 9s.
Penny Purcell won the half marathon walk in 2h 19m 53s from Michael Young 2h 20m 30s.

Hughes Memorial Cross Country Races ââ¬â 2 June 2012
Dougan Butler won the senior 8000m in 26m 58s from Paul Macdermid 27m 53s. Matt Baxter was the fastest over the 8000m course winning the M19 in 25m 56s. The best of the masters was M55 Robin Grant who clocked 30m 47s. Nate Levin won the M16 4000m in 14m 16s from Christian Conder 14m 28s.
Kara Macdermid won the W19 4000m in 14m 40s from Emily Roughan 15m 33s. Gemma Cartwright led in the senior women in 15m 49s. Lisa Kuhnert won the W40 4000m in 16m 47s. The W16 3000m went to Madeleine Roughan in 10m 53s.

Masterton Harriers Centennial 10km Road Race ââ¬â 2 June 2012
Tony Price 38m 2s from Gavin Champion 39m 2s and Graeme Butcher 40m 13s. Gail Edwards was first woman in 48m 17s from Rowan Skinner 48m 28s.
