Women's Day with Totalsports Ladies Race - TheEd - 30-06-2010 It’s that time of the year when thousands of women in both Stellenbosch and Johannesburg show solidarity and support on National Women’s Day by joining forces to take on the 2010 Totalsports Ladies Race! STELLENBOSCH According to Dezroy Poole, Race Director, participants can look forward to a fun filled event. “The beauty of Stellenbosch definitely adds to the splendour of the Totalsports Ladies Race. Nothing beats the atmosphere experienced on the day. Participants can expect a fast flat route, which means we’ll see some of our top runners trying to beat their personal best times. We trust that being part of this annual event will be a memorable occasion for all participants, runners and spectators a like,” says Poole. DATE: Monday, 09 August 2010 VENUE: Plein Street, Stellenbosch (Western Cape) DISTANCE: 5km fun walk & 10km run TIME: 08h30 Proceeds will go towards the JAG Foundation, an organisation focusing on education and sport development at grassroots. Athletes and spectators can look forward to a spirited performance by Idols Star, Jody Williams. JOHANNESBURG According to Andrew Bell, Race Director, participants can look forward to an exciting event. “The Totalsports Ladies Race is special as it is held in honour of the important role that women play in today’s society. The atmosphere experienced on the day is electric with thousands of excited women from all walks of life toeing the line in celebration of this day. Participants can look forward to a fun, undulating route through the beautifully wooded suburbs,” says Bell. DATE: Monday, 09 August 2010 VENUE: Roosevelt High School, Emmarentia TIME: 08h00 DISTANCE: 5km fun walk & 10km run Proceeds will go to the Fadimehang Mental Care Centre. The centre aims to equip learners with basic life skills including literacy and numeracy, and at 18 years and older move them to a sheltered workshop where they learn vocational skills like visual art, pottery, painting, beadwork, silk-screening, crafts, etc. The first 4 000 entrants will receive an official race T-shirt and medals will be awarded to all finishers. Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages are invited to take part in both routes through the scenic town of Stellenbosch in honour of women countrywide. Moms with prams are welcome, while husbands, friends and family are encouraged to join in the fun and show support on route. With awesome prizes up for grabs, the 2010 Totalsports Ladies Race is one event not to be missed.
