Canadian Track and Field Championships begin Thursday - TheEd - 01-07-2015

The 2015 Canadian Track and Field Championships, the first ever-combined Championships for senior, junior and para-athletics categories, begins Thursday at the University of Alberta Foote Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Athletics Canada event is presented by TrackTown Canada.

Rob Guy, Athletics Canada Chief Executive Officer, “Athletics Canada has been diligently working with PAJAC2015, the local organizing committee, to collectively raise the bar and deliver an outstanding weekend of competition for our best senior, junior and para-athletics athletes.” Guy adds, “Success will be measured by great field of play competition in an exciting atmosphere witnessed by thousands of spectators.”

The 2015 Canadian Championships (July 2 - 5) serve as the selection trials for the Parapan Am Games (August 7-15, Toronto), Panamerican Junior Championships (July 31 – August 2, Edmonton) and IAAF World Championships (August 22 – 30, Beijing, China). Almost all of the athletes recently named to represent Canada in track and field at the upcoming Pan American Games will also be on display over the next few days.

A total of 23 Canadian record holders and 37 Olympians are set to compete in the Championships as well as 29 Canadian para-athletics record holders. Overall the four-day event included 1448 entries (601 senior, 589 junior and 247 para) with athletes representing all 10 provinces and the Yukon Territory.

We encourage fans attending events on Friday, July 3 to wear red in support of Red Friday, a non-political awareness campaign to show support for Canadian Forces personnel and their families who will be in attendance.

Fans can catch all the action live on AthleticsCanada.tv. In addition, all event info, including schedule of events, live results and a spotter guide are available on the official championship webpage at Athletics.ca.

The Championships are back in Edmonton next year, serving as Athletics Canada’s 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Track and Field Trials.
