Van Deventer chases Olympic Qualifier in Hengelo - TheEd - 25-05-2012 Juan van Deventer will be running in only his second race in 2012 after a car accident in 2011 ended what was looking to be a good season. Van Deventer finished second at the Zeulenroda Meeting in Germany on 17 May with a time of 3:38.69. The 29 year old will now be looking for his first Olympic A-Qualifier at the Fanny Blankers Koen Games (FBK) in Hengelo on Sunday 27 May. Van Deventer is hoping the field (18 strong) will pull him under the 3:35.50 set by Athletics South Africa as an Olympic A-Qualifier. The line up includes the likes of Nixon Chepseba (Kenya/PB 3:30.94), Mekonnen Gebremedhin (Ethiopia/3:31.57) and Spainââ¬â¢s Juan Carlos Higuero (3:31.57). So van Deventer will be assured of a fast race. "On Sunday, I am running in a very strong field," said van Deventer. ââ¬Â.So I am going to give my all to go under the standard.ââ¬Â Van Deventer will race in four more races after Hengelo in an effort to secure Olympic Games participation Oscar Pistorius, Andre Olivier and Lehann Fourie will also line up at the FBK Games in the 400m, 800m and 110m hurdles respectively. It is a busy time for Pistorius as he will have raced on Ostrava (Friday 25 May), then Hengelo before he travels to the USA for the Prefontaine Classic (Oregon 2 June) and the Adidas Grand Prix (New York 9 June). In Hengelo, Pistorius will come up against Britainââ¬â¢s Martin Rooney who has already clocked 44.92sec this year. Whilst Pistorius is looking for only one more Olympic A- Qualifier (he ran 45.20 in Pretoria on 17 March), Lehann Fourie is still in search of his first Olympic A-Qualifier. With Americaââ¬â¢s Ryan Wilson included in the lineup (13.20 ââ¬â 28 April/Des Moines), Fourie will be hoping to be pulled under the 13.52sec needed. Olivier, running the menââ¬â¢s 800m, is looking for 1:45.60 after narrowly missing the time at the SA Championships in Port Elizabeth on 14 April. The 22-year-old from Central Gauteng clocked 1:46.17, finishing just behind SA Champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (1:45.78). Olivier ran in the Shanghai Diamond League Meeting on 19 May where he finished 3rd in 1:46.74. One of the fast men in the race will be Adam Kszczot (POL) with a seasonââ¬â¢s best time of 1:44.57 run indoors. Kszczot ran 1:43.30 in Rieti in 2011 and along with athletes from Kenya in the lineup; a faster time could be possible for Olivier. The FBK Games Hengelo will be streaming live from the FBK Games website.
