Visser looking for Olympic A Qualifier - TheEd - 25-05-2012

24 May - Zarck Visser will once again try to reach the Olympic Qualifying A-standard of 8.20m in the men’s long jump competition at the 14th International Leichtathleticmeeting in Dessau, Germany.

Earlier in April Visser became the SA Champion in the men’s long jump after beating SA Long Jump record holder, Khotso Mokoena. Visser had a jump of 8.21m with a strong tailwind, resulting in the performance not being recognized (he won with a legal jump of 8.07m). At the SA Open Championships in Pretoria (4-5 May), the 22-year-old recorded a personal best with a jump just 5cm short of the Olympic Qualifying A-standard.

Visser then competed at the Colourful Daegu Challenge in Korea on 16 May, where he finished 6th overall with 7.79m after struggling to find his rhythm. The winning distance at the event was 7.99m. After Dessau, Visser will still compete at four meetings in Europe.

SA 1500m Champion, Mapaseka Makhanya lines up in the 1500m. Makhanya has been looking for the elusive 4:06 in the women’s 1500m all season with her best performance at the SA Championships where she clocked 4:12.84. This meeting will be the first in a series of four meetings in Germany for Makhanya. After that she will move on to Sweden and Russia to end her European campaign.

Other athletes to compete here include Dean Brummer, Jerry Motsau, Johan Cronje, Carina Horn and Janice Josephs.
