Kalmer sets course record in Japan - TheEd - 21-05-2012 31-year-old Rene Kalmer set a new course record on Sunday, 20 May, when she won the Gifu Half Marathon in Japan clocking 1:13.02. Kalmer, who should be representing South Africa in the Marathon at the Olympics later this year, held off two times Olympic Marathon silver medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya by two seconds to claim victory. Ndereba finished in 1:13:04 with Eri Okubo (JPN) third in 1:13.26. Kaori Sakurai (JPN) and Romanian athlete Lidia Simon finished fourth and fifth respectively, their times 1:14.10 and 1:14.26. ââ¬ÅThe jet setting is over, now the real work starts,ââ¬Â said Kalmer ahead of her Olympic preparations. Kalmer along with Irvette van Blerk and Tanith Maxwell are the three women that have qualified for the Olympic Games. |
