Visser and Oosthuizen 6th in Korea - TheEd - 16-05-2012 16 May - Zarck Visser and Robert Oosthuizen competed at the Colourful Daegu Championships Meeting in Korea where both athletes were competing in order to achieve the Olympic Qualifying A-standard in their various events. Javelin thrower Robert Oosthuizen has not reached the 80m mark since June 2011 after a shoulder injury and needed 82m in order to reach the Olympic Qualifying A-Standard. He finished 6th with a throw of 74.63m. Dmitri Tarabin (RUS) won with 82.75m while Ari Mannio (FIN) and Igor Janik (POL) took second and third position respectively, their distances measured at 81.06m and 80.23m. The 22-year-old Zarck Visser wants to reach the 8.20m Olympic Qualifying Standard. Visser, who caused an upset at the National Championships in Port Elizabeth in April by beating Khotso Mokoena, finished 6th in the menââ¬â¢s long jump with his best jump measured at 7.79m. The winner, Ignisious Gaisah (GHA) jumped 7.99m with Latvian athlete Elvijs Misans second with 7.96m. George Kitchens (USA) finished third (7.92m). Visser has reached 8.15m at the SA Open Championships in Pretoria on 4 May. A repeat of the IAAF World Challenge Colourful Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting will be broadcast again on Supersport 5 from 22:30 - 00:00. Zarck Visserââ¬â¢s next event will be in Dessau, Germany on 25 May while Robert Oosthuizen will compete at the Samsung Diamond League in Shanghai on 19 May. |
