Pro Sano 10km Road Race - Newsroom - 30-03-2012 Road running enthusiasts will gather tomorrow - 31 March 2012 for the annual Pro Sano 10km Road Race Challenge which has become an important event in the Western Cape sporting calendar. Hosted in collaboration with the Telkom Athletics Club, the race will also incorporate a 10km walk league race and the new improved route will also be an attraction to many participants this year. The event is for many, good preparation for the Two Oceans Marathon which takes place a week later. Included in the Pro Sano 10km Road Race Challenge is a 5km fun run and walk which has become a hit with those who enjoy outdoor activities without a competitive urge. The 5km fun run and walk has seen the race broadening its appeal to participants of all ages, especially within the local school communities. ââ¬ÅPro Sano Medical Scheme has thrown its weight behind the annual race to bring the communities together in a fun way," says Michelle Camps, Sales and Marketing Executive of Pro Sano Medical Scheme. "Through this annual race we would like to encourage healthy living by creating a platform that may spark long term interest in athletics or active physical activities. Through our participation with the Telkom Athletics Club, we have seen a growing support from the local communityââ¬Â. To encourage further participation and a sense of ownership of the race among the community members, local schools were challenged to sell entries to the 5km fun run. ââ¬ÅAll proceeds go back to the community by making a donation to the school that brings in the highest number of race entries,ââ¬Â says Camps. Yusuf Samsodien, Telkom Athletics Club Representative says: ââ¬ÅWe are delighted to see the growth that the race has yielded over the years and we encourage participants to invite their friends ââ¬â professional or casual runners - to come along and enjoy this fun-filled day with us.ââ¬Â ââ¬ÅFor those who have ââ¬Ëkeeping fitââ¬â¢ as their new year resolution, this is a sure way to get started as the race accommodates everyone,ââ¬Â adds Samsodien. ââ¬ÅRunning and walking are perhaps the most natural exercises one can do and our clubââ¬â¢s door is always open to assist anyone who seriously wishes to take up road running.ââ¬Â The race starts at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Symphony Road, Bellville South Campus (old Pentech) and a new and improved route will be used this year. Entry fees for the 10km Challenge are R30 (Seniors) and R15 (Juniors), with a starting time of 7am. Race registration takes place from 5:30am on race day, with prize giving at 9am. Social entrants pay just R10 to participate in the 5km events, which kick off at 8am. Medals for the first 1500 finishers in the 10km challenge will be awarded and socks to the first 1500 finishers in the 10km events only.
