King named USATF Athlete of the Week - TheEd - 30-09-2011 INDIANAPOLIS ââ¬â Max King has been named USA Track & Fieldââ¬â¢s Athlete of the Week after a weekend in which he won both the USA 50 km Trail Championships and the XTERRA National Championships. King (Bend, Ore.) took home titles in races which were just 24 hours apart. Running Saturday in Bend, his first win came in the USA 50 km Trail Championships in a time of 3:27.54 and the second win came Sunday in the 21 km XTERRA National Championships in Ogden, Utah, in a time of 1:17.59. Continuing his evolution from track ace to trail champion, King earlier this month was the gold medalist at the World Mountain Running Championships. He won both the half marathon trail championship and the mountain championship in June. Now in its tenth year, USATFââ¬â¢s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
