the change of season can bring a number complications .. nice 10k result considering

take it easy, don't test yourself, rather monitor your morning pulse and see how your legs feel when you walk up and down stairs.

be cautious

Hi Ed, after Monday 8km easy
it went downhill, feeling the worst on Wednesday, then each day after a marked improvement.
Had to run to Airport on Thursday evening so a very gentle 7.5km

Saturday morning ran 6.5km very easy along Canal to see how I felt. Then hoped I'd be back to normal by today..this morning still a bit snotty and last of the cough. I set off for Lucerne.

Started off comfortable and near the pace I wanted to achieve, till I got to the 12km point.. then it was like someone turned the off switch.. Slowed and struggled home in 79:54. but pleased I managed it in the end.

Really disappointed as I'd targeted these last two races to improve my UK rankings.. wishing I could have gone into them in fine fettle. Must think positive.. onwards and upwards.

Bit of a concern for the 2nd half in a row left foot kept threatening with cramp spasm from 19km to the finish.

If things go to plan I've four weeks till my next race, a 10miler.

BT .. you have been carrying the 'cold' .. so you do need to get rid of it ... don't compare things until you have rid yourself of the 'hassles'

you respond to training quickly and you just need to keep healthy, and the results will come quickly

6 week cycles should suit you more .. train hard, freshen up .. race .. revcover

restart

you will get there

on we go

Still on my quest to run sub 35 again...trouble is.. I'll become a 60 year old in 13 months.
I missed months of training last year due to various injuries.. before saying sod it and trying to run through a prolonged knee issue while joining a 2nd Claim Club closer to home last September.
After 2 club sessions a week over a 5/6 week period managed to post my best time for over 13 years of 36:05
Knee trouble continued putting an end to further improvements over winter, now injury free trying to step up the milage and quality and now back to 36:40 shape.

Keeping my fingers crossed and still have that goal as my incentive.

Hope all is well, BT

Hi Tony

I keep asking the same question. Someone showed me this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-24007373 always inspires me. Of course when some one told me a girl had done sub 33 at nearly 41, not long after having a baby I decided to try and up my game & aim for < 33 Wink Still not broken 39 mind you....

All vets worth there salt should know of Martin Rees and his amazing achievements a Multiple World record holder. Just last week he set a new world best for a 63 year old 56:14 for 10miles. Some guys are just on another planet.

BT, if you have natural ability you must nurture it and learn to train sensibly to achieve the results

where are you with your current training format?

if you can set a marker via a 4k time-trial then we can juggle things to get you going. what say you?

Hi Ed, since the New Year been running between 40 and 60km a week, the last 2 weeks 80k most of it in the 4:05/4:25 per km range. Blow I no longer have the use of the track on my way home. Will do a 4k time trial as soon as I can.

Cheer,s BT
