Understood and makes sense re: the faster stuff. Will keep in mind. I did a nice 4x5k at marathon HR (140 or less) with 3 mins jog between today. 3:48-3:50/k for the first 2 then drifted down to about 3:55 pace over the last 2. Still not too bad considering the weight. Legs still good.

Hello there,

Apologies for the slow replies - crazy few weeks.

The long run on March 31 ended up being reduced to 24k (bad planning / time-keeping). I managed to do 31k the following weekend (Apr 7th) but got the flu the next day and took 4 days completely off.

Since then I've stuck to the plan but it's hard to say what realistic pace will be. For my marathon pace sessions to keep <140bpm I've been ranging from 3:47 - 3:55 pace.

Having said that, this morning I did a final session (3x1k marathon pace) in my race shoes and was holding 3:40-42 consistently at 135-139 bpm... so who knows!

It's been a strange build up off a 3 month off-season. I've averaged 65-70k/week since Feb so significantly less than before my 2:39 in Oct (100k+/wk) but I guess depending on sleep/conditions I'll be dancing around the 2:45 mark.

Come what may I shall stick to <140bpm until 21k, <150 until 31k.

I'll keep you posted!

2:48.

Conditions were good but ultimately I just didn't have the speed endurance. Stuck to the heart rate goals but unfortunately the pace slipped fairly consistently from 3:44 down to 4:00+ by 30k - not helped by a giant blister forming (new shoes... silly me) which meant I had to heel strike the last 10k!

All in all it's not a terrible starting point for the season given the 3 month break and low mileage build up. Feeling motivated to push on after some R&R this week and legs feeling decent (managed a 7k jog today).

Will revert with the summer race plan but will certainly be looking towards some 5/10k's and a half/full marathon in the Autumn.

Hi Jamie, it aint too bad when a bad one is 2:48

try to get back on the 10k schedule cycle as it is easy to go up to the marathon from there

currently balancing wife's return to running and she runs every 2nd day

consider Smile
