New event challenge - TheEd - 23-05-2010 and ..... New event challenge - DaveM40 - 24-05-2010 Hi TheEd - I did not run the 21k yesterday. My calf was still a little stiff and sore after I tried a little warm up etc on Saturday. No way I was going to risk the race after that. I am into the "Off Period" now and I hope to begin running soon - after a few days off (maybe a lttle swimming / stretching) - its 28 degrees / warm and sunny . So I am going to enjoy for a few days and then get cracking with a fresh start. I will feeedback when I re-start running later this week. dave New event challenge - TheEd - 24-05-2010 OK .. most wise .. it does sound as though you may have a tear there have you had any cross friction on the area yet? Cheers TheEd New event challenge - DaveM40 - 24-05-2010 Hi TheEd - I have had 2 physio sessions and the calf is mending. To be totaly honest my early lack of patience in letting things rest and heal, has led to the injury lingering. I agravated it by too many "try out out runs". I think the approaching race clouded my judgement. I have learned alot from this though and will deal with things better next time. I thank you for your (correct) advice and I will listen closer in future ... It is pain free today and feels good. I hope to run easy on treadmill later in the week after a few days break / swimming. I am excited about starting out with new race goals and building up to a new level of fitness. Best wishes ... Dave New event challenge - TheEd - 24-05-2010 let me know how it goes, though I am not sure of treadmill running for helping with calf strains and would say running on grass may be slightly better your call TheEd New event challenge - DaveM40 - 24-05-2010 Ok - thanks for the advice. I will be taking it really easy and I think my first run will be a jog around a large group of sports pitches near my home, later in the week. Nice flat grass - not too far. I am just swimming and relaxing for a few days before that. No rush for me now - my target races are in September. Also my club know I am injured and won't expect me to race on the track in matches now. Thanks for your support and help Dave New event challenge - TheEd - 26-05-2010 :great: enjoy New event challenge - DaveM40 - 27-05-2010 Hi TheEd - hope you are well. I ran today - first time since Saturday; and ........... 35 mins for 7.5 k - no problems :great: It was a bit tense to be honest - hoping that calf would be ok. Glad to get this done. Swim tomorrow. Probably go for 30 mins very easy on Saturday and start "off period" training Monday :mrburns: Looking forward to training for 21k racing now Dave New event challenge - TheEd - 28-05-2010 still keep it cautious for now the future certainly looks interesting for your running goals TheEd New event challenge - DaveM40 - 29-05-2010 Hi TheEd - hope you are well. Picked up an adductor strain on my second run  More time off ..... never mind. I guess other people in life really suffer with real bad health problems or are in poverty / war zones - so my minor injuries are just a passing frustration. I am seeing phsio today and will see what the damage is ...... I hope you have great weekend. Best wishes ... Dave |
