To race is but a dream... - TheEd - 22-12-2015 this doesn't sound good Daz, you were making such good progress will you go see someone to have it assessed? or simply wait for it to pass? TheEd To race is but a dream... - NicBathgate - 16-01-2016 Very cool to see your running journey in this thread Daz, I hope your knee is back in ship shape so you can keep running soon! To race is but a dream... - shadydaz - 25-01-2016 Hi Guys, Ok, so it has been a bit of a struggle. I have been intermitantly on and ioff training. Got home, again the right calf was a bit tight. got up next morning and could barely walk. I have not run since. It has been feeling very heavy and a little strained. Been resting up and weighing up my options. It could just simpley be twinge picked up during Sunday's run I wasn't really aware of when it happened. it could be my new running shoes but I do not see how, been using since since Christmas with no issues. same model as i had previously for continuity. I have been a bit down-hearted with these various issues holding me back over the last few months. I didn't want to bring any negativity to the forum. The plan is to try and get back out tonight and just run easy for this week. Maybe cut training back to allow more recovery days (which you can see above I had been doing over last couple of weeks) and see what happens. As for any racing, no way. I have had a quick look online to see what is around but I dare not enter anything until I am feeling confident that I can finish the race and be happy with the performance. Thank you for the kind Words NicBathgate. Are you new? If so welcome to the site! A Very Frustrated Darren. To race is but a dream... - TheEd - 26-01-2016 Hi Darren, sorry to hear of the frustrations, hopefully you are able to find a solution to get you back up & running without problems soon are you doing any exercises to assist yourself with the various problems? hang in there TheEd To race is but a dream... - shadydaz - 26-01-2016 We are currently in the process of turning the cellar into a gym so strength excercises can be done in a controlled environment. There just isn't enough to go to the gym or currently space in house to do any strength work. i already realised that lack of strength work is a support factor and looking to remedy it ASAP. Kind Regards, Darren. To race is but a dream... - shadydaz - 04-02-2016 Started a bit of yoga/strength work at the begining of the week. Will build it up gently, even though I haven't done much, parts of me are still hurting from it so it is doing something good! 01-02-15 Easy run Time: 34:22 Pace: 5:23min/km Dist: 6.23 km Ave HR: 145 Max HR: 169 Ave Cadence: 154spm Ave. Stride: Some pain just above ankle in right leg. Put this down to insoles so changed up for next run. 03-02-15 Easy run Time: 50:34 Pace: 5:17min/km Dist: 9.57 km Ave HR: 141 Max HR: 175 Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: Leg felt much better with standard insoles removed and aftermarket one in only. Another run planned for tonight, nice and steady on the pace. Rest up tomorrow and decide whether to do one Sunday. if this week and next week goes good then will look at doing a time trial to get back into cycles. Thank you for all the support and advice over the last few years. It is much appreciated. Darren. To race is but a dream... - TheEd - 09-02-2016 Hi Daz, if you able to avoid injuries and stay on track, you should move to a new level once you get back to racing fitness. What the past few years has given you is experience, and this is a mighty great tool when it comes to racing so here's to the new season and may the progression be great onwards TheEd ps. thanks for the donation To race is but a dream... - shadydaz - 21-03-2016 Not much to update. completely lost confidence about running. It is very difficult when you are repeatedly trying to come back from injury and break down again third run in. Looking to start again this week. Just some gentle hour long runs every couple of days for now and ease into it gently. Still not managed to organise a sports massage due to work commitments and car problems that are more of a priority. Will hopefully be able to report in soon with some more positive news than of late. I miss running and it is starting to get me down. Last few runs: 01-02-15 Progessive run Time: 34:22 Pace: 5:23min/km Dist: 6.23 km Ave HR: 145 Max HR: 169 Ave Cadence: 154spm Ave. Stride: 22-02-16 Easy run Time: 1:02:55 Pace: 5:20min/km Dist: 11.8 km Ave HR: 166 Max HR: 184 Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.23m 23-02-16 Easy run Time: 34:10 Pace: 5:34min/km Dist: 11.8 km Ave HR: 154 Max HR: 169 Ave Cadence: 158spm Ave. Stride: 1.14m 25-02-16 Easy run Time: 15:37 Pace: 5:20min/km Dist: 2.93 km Ave HR: no data Max HR: no data Ave Cadence: 150spm Ave. Stride: 1.25m Last run. To race is but a dream... - TheEd - 22-03-2016 Daz, work on the one day on one day off routine, do not look to run 2 days in a row. Use the off day to focus on maintaining your legs and avoiding niggles TheEd To race is but a dream... - shadydaz - 25-05-2016 It's been a while so better update you all with where I am at. I am still battling on and trying to get myself back to running regulary. Here is what I have done since the last update. It was a few weeks before i go tout again and only managed two runs before having another break: HR monitor sensor stopped working on my watch so no data for now :duh: 22-03-16 Easy run Time: 51:45 Pace: 5:31min/km Dist: 9.37 km Ave Cadence: 154spm Ave. Stride: 1.18m 24-03-16 Easy run Time: 50:12 Pace: 5:31min/km Dist: 9.40 km Ave Cadence: 155spm Ave. Stride: 1.21m Then another break due to more issues, mainly motivational. So more or less starting again from scratch at this point: 19-04-16 Easy run Time: 33:05 Pace: 5:17min/km Dist: 6.27 km Ave Cadence: 150spm Ave. Stride: 1.26m Then ANOTHER GAP :taped: 03-05-16 Easy run Time: 33:05 Pace: 5:17min/km Dist: 6.27 km Ave Cadence: 150spm Ave. Stride: 1.26m 04-05-16 Easy run Time: 38:54 Pace: 5:24min/km Dist: 7.20 km Ave Cadence: 152spm Ave. Stride: 1.22m 05-05-16 Easy run Time: 33:27 Pace: 5:24min/km Dist: 6.20 km Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.21m 08-05-16 Long run Time: 1:26:55 Pace: 5:48min/km Dist: 15.00 km Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.13m 09-05-16 Recovery run Time: 34:25 Pace: 5:33min/km Dist: 6.23 km Ave Cadence: 151spm Ave. Stride: 1.19m 11-05-16 Easy run Time: 56:37 Pace: 5:23min/km Dist: 10.53 km Ave Cadence: 152spm Ave. Stride: 1.22m 12-05-16 Recovery run Time: 33:18 Pace: 5:20min/km Dist: 6.24 km Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.23m 14-05-16 Warm Up run Time: 7:35 Pace: 5:40min/km Dist: 1.34 km Ave Cadence: 152spm Ave. Stride: 1.16m 14-05-16 Park Run Pacer - 25mins Time: 24:40 Pace: 5:56min/km Dist: 4.99 km Ave Cadence: 150spm Ave. Stride: 1.35m Splits (just for fun :p) 1. 5:03 2. 4:57 3. 4:57 4. 4:52 5. 4:51 Not bad considering I thought I was going to be really pushing myself to run that quick but it was well within ease.. 14-05-16 Warm Down run Time: 8:27 Pace: 5:28min/km Dist: 1.55 km Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.20m 15-05-16 Long run Time: 1:28:54 Pace: 5:30min/km Dist: 16.15 km Ave Cadence: 157spm Ave. Stride: 1.16m 16-05-16 Recovery run Time: 32:35 Pace: 5:14min/km Dist: 6.23 km Ave Cadence: 154spm Ave. Stride: 1.24m 16-05-16 Easy run Time: 33:02 Pace: 5:20min/km Dist: 6.20 km Ave Cadence: 155spm Ave. Stride: 1.21m 23-05-16 Easy run Time: 32:50 Pace: 5:17min/km Dist: 6.21 km Ave Cadence: 151spm Ave. Stride: 1.25m 24-05-16 10km Easy run Time: 56:03 Pace: 5:19min/km Dist: 10.55 km Ave Cadence: 153spm Ave. Stride: 1.23m And that is it to date. Been trying to build up recovery and energy levels mainly before doing anything too strenuous. Was thinking about factoring in some speedwork soon, maybe Thursday this week. Nothing harsh, just a few 2km ints at 04:30 per KM to loosen it up and get into that routine again. The run yesterday felt the most comfortable by far yet. hardly broke a sweat. I have also been doing a lot of core/upper body routines as was very unsteady when first started running again regulary. Core was too soft to maintain decent balance. That is building up nicely. Still carying a lot of weight compared to when I was up to 11st 7lbs at start of this month. Shaved a bit off that now as starting to tone up again but still carrying that extra stone compared to this time last year ad don't think that is going to shift as it is mostly in the legs still. I want to get back onto the sub 45 cycle when the time feels right but feel I need to test the water in terms of the speedwork first. It the 2km reps go ok then I will be looking your advice on what to do next TheEd. Sorry I have been away for so long, didn't want to spread negative vibes on the forum so thought it best to come back with something positive to discuss :jester: Darren. |
