Ottawa - Dylan Armstrong from Kamloops, British-Columbia finished 1st and smashed the Canadian shot put record today by 54 centimetres in Baunatal, Germany. Armstrongââ¬â¢s massive heave of 21.58 metres surpasses the Canadian record he set of 21.04 metres in 2008 at the Beijing, Olympics where he placed 4th. Earlier this year Armstrong established a new Canadian indoor record at the World Indoor Championships throwing 21.39 metres.
Canadian track and field athletes are off to a strong week as earlier Tabia Charles of Pickering, Ontario set a new womenââ¬â¢s triple jump record of 13.96 metres.
On Friday Dylan, Perdita Felicien of Pickering, Ontario and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep from Whitby, Ontario will all be looking to put an exclamation mark on the week of competition as they all line up in the IAAFââ¬â¢s Oslo Diamond League competition.
