Scotlandââ¬â¢s top senior talent has been selected for the prestigious McCain Loughborough International meet this Sunday, 23rd May starting at 11am at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium on the University campus.
Scotland will compete against, England, Wales, GB U20s, BUCS [British Universities & Colleges Sport] select and Loughborough Students. Scottish stars such as Alistair Hay [Central AC], who won the Inter-Regionals 1500m, and Emma Raven [Chester Le Street Harriers] who set a new Scottish record in the 2,000m steeplechase, also at the recent Inter-Regional Championships at Wishaw, are part of the line up.
Sprinter, and Scottish record holder, Nick Smith [Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers] also made the grade along with hammer thrower Mark Dry [Woodford Green & Essex Ladies] who recently threw a personal best of 71.88m to win the Ullevikast Throws Meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Scotland Head Coach Laurier Primeau said: ââ¬ÅThis competition is an important fixture on Scotlandââ¬â¢s athletics calendar, as it provides different competitive opportunities for different athletes. On one hand it will be an important rookie representation for the likes of Calum Innes [VP-Glasgow AC] in the 4x100m and Lucinda Logan [VP-Glasgow AC] in the high jump, but on the other hand it will serve as a season opener for international veterans, like World Championships semi-finalist Eilidh Child [Pitreavie AAC].ââ¬Â
Loughborough offers Scotland the chance to get a full senior squad together and is the first major senior event of the season with athletes preparing for the National Championships in July and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.
The event has become a well-known fixture in the elite athletics calendar, hosting several high profile athletes over the years. Other big name athletes in attendance this year will be World Champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis, former Loughborough student Will Sharman, GBââ¬â¢s top 100m hurdler, and Loughborough alumni and British No.1 female javelin thrower Goldie Sayers.
Tickets are on sale now and cost ã6.00 for adults and ã3.00 for students/concession. Visit iamlufbra.com to find out more.
