The addition of 2009 World Champion Mbualeni Mulaudzi and former World Championship semifinalist Frenchman Florent Lacasse have added some spice to the menââ¬â¢s 800m at the Yellow Pages Interprovincial in Germiston on Saturday 25 February.
Mulaudzi won the World title in 2009 against all expectations but his defence of his title in 2011 was scuppered due to injury. Now Mulaudzi is looking to qualify for the Olympics in London in 2012 in the hopes of winning the one medal that is missing from his repertoire, the Olympic Gold.
Mulaudzi won the Olympic Silver Medal in Athens in 2004 after having won the World Indoor Title earlier that year. In 2003 he won World Championships Bronze. His international breakthrough came in 2002 when he won the Commonwealth Games title in Manchester.
Lacasse boasts a best time of 1:44.48 and is a wily campaigner. Whilst they have entered as individuals and as such their positions and times will make no difference to the Interprovincial Competition, the addition of these two athletes to the menââ¬â¢s 800m is guaranteed to ensure a hard race.
