Late entries will not receive a goodie bag or T-shirt at registration, but for those athletes still wishing to compete at the 19th Soweto Marathon on the November 6, all hope is not lost. Although entries have officially closed on Friday, 21 October, Athletics South Africa (ASA) has extended the deadline to accommodate all runners.
Late entries will cost R140 for the 42.2km and R90 for the 10km race/walk, professional walk and the 10km wheelchair race. Athletes without a permanent license will also have to attain one at an additional R30 for the marathon and R15 for all 10km races.
Athletes wishing to run the 5km fun run will pay R10 on the day of the race (6 November) and no pre-entering is necessary for this race.
This year winners of the marathon will receive a whopping R100 000 while 2nd and 3rd place will receive R50 000 and R25 000 respectively. The first place winners of all 10km events will receive R5000. All athletes finishing the race will receive a medal for their participation.
There are 3 ways to ensure your spot in the lineup. Completed entry forms and proof of payment can be faxed to 011 327 7647 or 086 604 6880. Fax entries will only be accepted until Friday 28 October. Strictly no faxes beyond this date will be accepted.
Athletes wishing to enter online (via enteronline.co.za) have until Sunday, 30 October to get their entries in. No online entries will be accepted after this date.
The last alternative will be to bring cash with to a number collection venue and enter on the spot. Number collection will only take place at Pilditch Stadium in Tshwane (31 October and 1 November), ASA offices in Houghton Estate (2 and 3 November) and at the MTN Expo Centre situated in Nasrec (4 and 5 November). Nothing will be handed out on race day. These must be collected between 09h00 and 19h00.
