Trail running enthusiasts can now be part of the action at the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Buffelspoort presented by REHIDRATî SPORT this coming weekend by either taking part in the 6km or 12km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU on Sunday, 27 January 2013.
The 6km and 12km New Balance Trail Run routes will follow the exact same routes as that of the Totalsports XTERRA Lite (Sunday, 27 January 2013) and Totalsports XTERRA Full (Saturday, 26 January 2013) respectively. According to local trail run route designer, Harry Schubert, runners will be rewarded with spectacular views at both the 6km and 12km races. ââ¬ÅWe are very excited to introduce the New Balance Trail Run as part of the Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort. Trail runners can look forward to experiencing fun routes while taking in the breathtaking scenery. We would like to encourage all runners to stick around afterwards, enjoy the Festival Village and support the XTERRA warriors that will be taking on the Totalsports XTERRA Lite at 09:00ââ¬Â, says Schubert.
6km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU:
After about 3km into the start, the route splits where it will follow the first section of last yearââ¬â¢s XTERRA Lite route before linking up with a new single track trail along a Mango plantation. From here the trail continues through a shady downhill section of indigenous trees leading towards the dam and across the tar road to the finish.
12km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU:
After the split 3km into the start, the route makes a steep 1 km climb on a 4x4 jeep track heading up a mountain slope, which levels out at the 4km mark. Runners will now enjoy some respite on a gentle downhill section along undulating jeep track before crossing the wall of a farm dam. The route continues along a gravel road past another small dam and then makes a steep climb towards the highest point of the route which is reached at the 7km mark after an ascent of 405m. This also marks the turning point and after a downhill section on gravel the route comes past the other side of the same farm dam that was crossed earlier and leads on to a trail under shady trees that links up with a gravel track leading towards the descent down to the Buffelspoort Dam. On the way down the runners will be rewarded with spectacular views over the dam with the Magaliesberg in the background, before joining up at the bottom with the 6km route and finishing at the dam.
