Welsh Athlete Matthew Janes to make Copenhagen Marathon his debut
Welsh athlete Matt Janes won the Bedford Harriers Oakley 20 on Sunday 5th April in 1hr 48 minutes 10 seconds and this while in deep training to make his debut in the Copenhagen Marathon on May 24th, 2009.
It is Janesâââ‰â¢ intention to seek a qualification time for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India in October 2009 by his entry in Copenhagen.
Janes has been showing promising form this year with a 29:31 Personal Best for 10km and a strong 65 minute half thereafter and with his recent win over 20 miles while deep in marathon training the athlete is looking for a solid showing on his debut over the marathon distance in Copenhagen.
The Copenhagen Marathon organisers and Wonderful Copenhagen has provided the Welsh athlete the opportunity to realise his Commonwealth marathon dream while also inviting athletes from abroad to take on the challenge through the streets of this Danish city which is seen as the pride of Scandinavia.
The invites are aimed to provide Danish athletes with an opportunity to further develop their talent by racing against males between the 2:18 and 2:20 category, as well as inviting women of the sub 2:40 calibre in 2009.
A great race is on the cards as Janes is the first athlete to be announced with two more Japanese athletes pledging their commitment to the May 24th marathon, to be released to the Press shortly.
The Copenhagen Marathon is looking wonderful for May 24th.
