USADA announced today that Christian Hesch, an athlete in the sport of Track & Field, has accepted a two-year suspension for committing an anti-doping rule violation.

Hesch voluntarily admitted having used erythropoietin (EPO) which is prohibited under the USADA Protocol for Olympic Movement Testing and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Anti-Doping Rules, both of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List. Thirty athletes are being investigated in connection with a suspected doping affair involving a doctor in the city of Erfurt, the German anti-doping agency said.
NADA said they were looking into each of the 30 cases where the doctor, once part of the Olympic base in Erfurt, is suspected of having used a blood infusion system after exposing the blood to UV rays. [Read more…]

OSAKA, August 23 — World athletics governing body IAAF here Thursday said that first-time drug cheats will face a mandatory four-year ban.

The IAAF initially imposed four-year bans on doping cheats in 1991 but they were forced to turn back their tough stance for legal challenges in 1997. [Read more…]
