Ottawa – The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has ruled Justin Rodhe of Kamloops, B.C., ineligible for the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.  Rodhe, who has been living and training in Canada for close to four years and is married to Canadian hammer thrower Megan Rodhe, acquired his Canadian Citizenship on November 1, 2011.  According to IAAF rule 5.2, Rodhe would be eligible to represent Canada in international competition as of October 31, 2013. Twelve 2012 National Track League series events confirmed

OTTAWA- The National Track League (NTL) announced today that 12 events will score across the series in this summer’s edition of the international track and field grand prix series taking place in six Canadian cities.  Last season ten events were recognized series wide with NTL champions crowned in each.  NTL scoring events are offered on a minimum of three occasions in the series providing athletes with opportunities to earn points in the hopes of securing NTL championship trophies and cash prizes.  Events not recognized with NTL status may still be offered on a meet by meet basis at the discretion of each competitions’ organizing committee. GUADALAJARA – Malindi Elmore of Kelowna, B.C., won the bronze medal in the women’s 1500-metres today in 4:27.57 at the Pan American Games. Happy with the medal, the race itself was not to her expectations; “The time was slow and I was blocked from the beginning. No one took the pace and I just had to be patient. The group got the pace at 150 to 200-metres and usually it is about 400 to 600-metres.” Cuba’s Adriana Munoz won the gold medal in 4:26.09 and Columbia’s Rosibel Garcia took silver in 4:26.78. GUADALAJARA – Angela Whyte of Edmonton, Alta., won Canada’s third athletics (track and field) medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. In the women’s 100-metre hurdles Whyte crossed the finish line in 13.09 seconds securing the silver medal. “It was not my best race. But I’m happy. I wanted to win a medal for the team and for my country”. Whyte adds, “I’m glad I came here to see a world event, to see where I sit and to see what I need to do for next year.” [Read more…]

GUADALAJARA – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., capped off a season for the ages with Canada’s first athletics (track and field) gold medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.  Dylan’s fifth throw in the men’s shot put of 21.30 metres established a new Pan American Games record and secured gold. “Definitely a good feeling and a great way to cap off the season” said a thrilled Armstrong. “It has been a long season; my first competition was April 15th.”  [Read more…]

OTTAWA – Caroline Morin-Houde of St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que., and Shaina Harrison of Aurora, Ont., both won medals on the first day of track and field action at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of Man.  Morin-Houde and Harrison won silver and bronze respectively in the girls 100-metres, both stopping the clock in 11.81 seconds.  A review of the photo finish was necessary to establish silver and bronze.  [Read more…]

Dylan Armstrong wins Silver in Daegu

DAEGU – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., is the silver medalist in the shot put at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea. His fourth throw of 21.64 metres secured him Canada’s first ever medal in a throwing event at a World Championship. “I’m happy to bring this medal back to Canada and my community in Kamloops. I’m really happy; it’s a good setup going into London. I am going to keep listening to my coach, I have to train tomorrow, and the objective is a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.” [Read more…]
