Jason Tunks of London, Ont., has signed on to throw his last discus at the 2014 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Moncton, N.B. Canada’s best discus thrower in history will take his place in the throws circle one last time on Saturday June 28 at 3:15 p.m.
“I’m excited to take part in the 2014 national championship”, notes Jason from his home in London, Ont., “My last competition was a few years back so I’m assuming there will be a little rust! I do however hope to put on a good show for my kids and future discus Olympians!”
The three-time Olympian and Olympic finalist officially retired in 2011. He retired as Canadian record holder and an astonishing 14 Canadian championship titles. Jason will be officially inducted into Athletics Canada’s Hall of Fame on Thursday June 26, 2014 in Moncton as part of the Championship festivities, “It’s an absolute honour to be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. To be recognized for the ground breaking efforts as a thrower and years of hard work is truly amazing.”
Ten others will join Jason in the class of 2014; Athletes – Graeme Fell, Marcel Jobin, Bruce Kidd, Lynn Kanuka; Coach Paul Poce; Builders Ken Porter, LeRoy Washburn and In Memoriam John Loaring, Harold Nicholson and Father John Redmond.
Sport Ambassador Perdita Felicien will serve as Master of Ceremony for Athletics Canada’s 2014 Awards banquet and will be back on the air providing colour commentary throughout the Canadian Championships live stream.

The induction ceremony will take place in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 26, 2014 during the Canadian Track and Field Championships.
