OTTAWA- Athletics Canada’s entry at the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association) under-23 Championships won an amazing 18 medals over the course of the three day competition this weekend in Guanajuato, Mexico. Canada’s previous best event finish at this event was a haul of 17 medals at the 2010 edition held in the United States. The next edition of this event will take place in Kamloops, B.C., in 2014. GUADALAJARA – Canadian track and field wrapped up competition today at Telmex Athletics Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico with a pair of fifth place finishes in the relays. Malindi Elmore wins Bronze
GUADALAJARA – Malindi Elmore of Kelowna, B.C., won the bronze medal in the women’s 1500-metres today in 4:27.57 at the Pan American Games. Happy with the medal, the race itself was not to her expectations; “The time was slow and I was blocked from the beginning. No one took the pace and I just had to be patient. The group got the pace at 150 to 200-metres and usually it is about 400 to 600-metres.” Cuba’s Adriana Munoz won the gold medal in 4:26.09 and Columbia’s Rosibel Garcia took silver in 4:26.78. Angela Whyte takes Silver at the Pan American Games
GUADALAJARA – Angela Whyte of Edmonton, Alta., won Canada’s third athletics (track and field) medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. In the women’s 100-metre hurdles Whyte crossed the finish line in 13.09 seconds securing the silver medal. “It was not my best race. But I’m happy. I wanted to win a medal for the team and for my country”. Whyte adds, “I’m glad I came here to see a world event, to see where I sit and to see what I need to do for next year.” [Read more…]
Armstrong wins gold
GUADALAJARA – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., capped off a season for the ages with Canada’s first athletics (track and field) gold medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Dylan’s fifth throw in the men’s shot put of 21.30 metres established a new Pan American Games record and secured gold. “Definitely a good feeling and a great way to cap off the season” said a thrilled Armstrong. “It has been a long season; my first competition was April 15th.” [Read more…]
Ball named for Parapan AM Games
