OTTAWA – The first edition of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Relays is approaching and Athletics Canada is pleased today to name 20 athletes to the Canadian team. Dunfee, Gomez, Thorne dip below record
TAICANG, CHINA – A trio of Canadian race walkers dipped below the Canadian record in the men’s 20-kilometre race walk at the 2014 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Taicang, China. Warner wins decathlon Bronze
Moscow – Damian Warner of London, Ont., won bronze today at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship. Warner finished the ten-event decathlon with a personal best score of 8512 points to earn the bronze medal, Canada’s first at this championship. Other Canadian highlights on day two of competition included Inaki Gomez of Vancouver, B.C., placing eight in the men’s 20-kilometre race walk with a seasonal best of 1:22:21. Ahmed best ever Canadian finish
Moscow – A number of Canadian athletes recorded strong performances on the first day of competition at the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship in Athletics. Today’s Canadian highlights in Moscow, Russia include a best ever finish by a Canadian at the World Championships by St. Catharines, Ont., Mohammed Ahmed. Damian Warner of London, Ont., performed well in the first five of ten events in the decathlon to sit in fourth place while Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ont., and Gavin Smellie of Etobicoke, Ont., advanced to the semi-finals of the 100-metres. Drouin sets new Canada record
Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., established a new Canadian record of 2.36-metres in the men’s high jump today at the IAAF’s Diamond League competition in Eugene, Oregon. Drouin finished third behind American Erik Kynard (2.36m) and Essa Barshim of Qatar who set a world leading mark of 2.40-metres. The previous Canadian record was 2.35-metres held by Mark Boswell. Canadians in Top 10 Rankings
Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., registered a World leading performance in the men’s 3000-metres steeplechase this past weekend at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Standford, California. At the same meet Alex Genest of Lac-aux-Sables, Que., registered a World Championship A standard and is ranked third in the World. Chris Winter of Vancouver, B.C., is in 6th. [Read more…]
Rodhe ineligible for World Indoors
Ottawa – The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has ruled Justin Rodhe of Kamloops, B.C., ineligible for the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Rodhe, who has been living and training in Canada for close to four years and is married to Canadian hammer thrower Megan Rodhe, acquired his Canadian Citizenship on November 1, 2011. According to IAAF rule 5.2, Rodhe would be eligible to represent Canada in international competition as of October 31, 2013. [Read more…]
